  Family Learns together

When you have several children in your homeschool,
you may have some of these challenges:

Not enough time to spend with each child
frustration as they wait for you to help them
exhasting amount of work for mom
    toddler or baby a distraction
phone calls or door bells another distraction
    house always a mess
    kids fighting
    School takes all day

Solutions

Limit Distractions
take phone off hook or let answering machine get it
    Put up NO SOLICITORS sign
Let friends and relatives know you are not available during morning

Be Organized
Do quick clean up of house in evenings
Have a shelf or box for each child's school things and make sure things are put away after school.Correct math and other assignments each day - don’t get behind
    Have a schedule

Schedules
Plan your schedule - make daily or weekly lesson plans.
Have older children help teach younger ones.
If the kids are older and more independent, make a list of assignments for them.  Instuct them to work on their
own and come to you when they have a question.  They can also be taught that when they have a question and
you are working with someone else that they can move on to another assignment while they wait.

Curriculum
Choose curriculum that is simple - focus on the basic skills
        Math - Saxon
Spelling - Natural Speller - Order at Design-a-Study
        English - Writing Rules
    Consider the “4 Year Plan”
LatterDay Family Resources has a  wonderful curriculum guide - lds online or order Love to Learn version

Involve toddlers
    Montesauri play
    their own school
older children take turns with entertaining baby
    teach difficult subjects during naps

Unit Studies
Unit Studies involve the whole family and can be very effective.

Research Projects
These are like unit studies but the work is all done by the students.  These work well for talented, motivated, or older students.
